INVITATION TO SCHOOLS   (Suitable for Year 9 and Above)

Education Pack Now Available

The Education Pack for Shakespeare's Queens: She-wolves and Serpents is now available to download free from The Bakehouse Theatre.  Full of information, script extracts and pre-show activities, the Pack also includes hints on what to look out for when watching the show.

Meet Queens Margaret, Titania, Hermione, Tamara, Cleopatra and more, from over a dozen plays, in sixty action-packed minutes.  Shakespeare's seductively powerful Queens star in a fascinating hour of intrigue, passion, tragedy and triumph.

What is it about?

Fear of powerful women meant Queens in Shakespeare's day were considered to be 'unnatural' by many of their subjects.  In danger of being characterised as aggressive she-wolves or seductive serpents, they walked a tightrope as they tried to reconcile their roles as women and monarchs. Only by succeeding in this balancing act could they keep their people's support and their thrones.

In this action-packed look at the lives of some of the most dynamic female characters ever written, Shakespeare's famous Queens relive their most dangerous and exciting exploits.

Shakespeare's Queens: She-wolves and Serpents is the latest production from Straylight Australia, whose internationally successful play, Shakespeare's Mothers: Mad, Bad and Dangerous to Know was a hit at last year's Fringe*.

Why see it?

  •  Fun, fast-paced, exciting, entertaining, passionate, professional theatre
  •  Exposes students to a wide variety of Shakespeare's plays & characters (men as well as women)
  • Clarity and humour quickly engage student audiences and hold their attention
