Meet Queens Margaret, Titania, Hermione, Tamara,Cleopatra and more, from over a dozen plays, in sixty action-packedminutes. Shakespeare's seductively powerful queens star in afascinating hour of intrigue, passion, tragedy and triumph, presentedby Good Queen Bess and the witty Bard himself.
ManyShakespeare fans and historians are fascinated by the tantalisingquestion of whether, as the two greatest celebrities of their age,Shakespeare and Elizabeth I, ever actually met. He certainly actedin plays presented before her at court and some of the queens in hisplays may have been modelled on her. But, in the absence of modernpaparazzi, phone hacking or Twitter, there is no evidence of anyactual introduction or conversation.
'Inthis new production, Shakespeare and Elizabeth do meet – underrather unusual circumstances', says director Roz Riley. 'Together, they summon the famous queens of his plays to the stage to relive thegreatest tragedies and triumphs of the amazing lives he wrote forthem. It's a fascinating opportunity to meet a great many fabulouslypowerful women, and the men they fought and loved, all in one go.'
